How Many Cushions?

sofa cushionsSeat cushions are a great way to quickly update your room with a new look without spending too much money.  Many bargins can be found in your local closeout dealers like Big Lots, TJMaxx Home Goods, or Marshalls.  You'll often find brand name home decor items at very low prices up to 75% off from regular priced retail shops.  I never mind shopping at those places, because everyone has their own style, and thank goodness furniture trends are not as volitile as fashion trends.  So you'll likely to find season appropriate colors and materials when your shopping at those places.  For instance if your shopping during the fall, your more likely to find microfibers, leathers, and other soft and comfy fabric lined pillows in autumn colors and holiday prints rather than in the summer time you'll find lighter fabrics, like linens, fabrics, polyesters, satin pillow, etc in lighter and brighter shades.  My favorite time to shop for pillows woudl definately be summer since all the bright colors will be out and I can experiment with Reds, Corals, Lime Greens, etc.  Something fun to dress up that borring beige sofa!  Another great way is to go to your local fabric store, where you'll often find great deals on remnants upholstery fabrics, which are end pieces from other projects that they mark down at deep discounts to close them out.  You'll usually need 1/2 yard material for each pillow.  So have fun with it and stay tuned, the next topic is how to make your own Pillows and Cushions!

New Furniture Care Tips

To protect your new furniture, we suggest the following:

* Do not place your furniture in direct sunlight and/or a damp area.

* Arrange your furniture so it is not placed in front of or over heating or air conditioning vents.

* Avoid placing furniture directly under windows.

* Be careful not to place plastic materials (place mats, lamp bases, notebooks, etc.) on your furniture. Certain plastics have ingredients that may react with and damage the finish.

* Occasionally rotate accessories so they do not remain in the same spot for extended periods.

clean furniture* Avoid creating marks on your furniture by placing a piece of felt, cloth or leather under accessories.

* Lift objects from the top surface rather than dragging them across the finish when moving them.

* Use a protective pad when using your furniture as a writing surface (especially when using a ballpoint pen).

* Wipe up spills promptly. Water left over a prolonged period of time will cause white spots in the finish, and alcohol, perfume, after-shave and medicines can cause severe damage to the finish.

* Dust frequently with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. To remove accumulated dust or old furniture wax build-up, use a soft, lint-free cloth which has been dampened in a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Dry thoroughly using a clean, lint-free cloth and then apply furniture polish, wiping it in the direction of the wood grain.

* We recommend that furniture be polished every six months.
