Setting up

The key to setting up a successful home office is to designate specific task areas.  Ie. The corner is for printing, the other corner is for storage and files, the left side of the room is for guest seating, etc.  You'll have to decide if you want to add on from the basics which are the desk of course, your office chair, and the file cabinet.  Accessories include: desk hutch, cradenza, desk return, pull out tray, etc.  Adding all these other accessories is usually a good idea if you have a corner space to fill and want to create a cohereant and organized look.  check out our Hanna Collection Corner Desk Set by Homelegance.

Aniline leather sofas

Aniline leather sofasAniline leather sofas are some of the highest quality sofas you can purchase. The aniline dying process tints the leather used to make the leather sofa all the way through, so even if you get a scratch, the leather underneath the top layer is still the same color.

Because the aniline leather does not cover up any imperfections in the original leather, it must be of very high quality without imperfections to be used to make a leather sofa.

Aniline leather sofas are made from full grain leather and soaking it in a drum to dye the leather. The leather is then used to create the aniline sofa without any other treatments to alter the look of the leather.

This makes it so the leather used for the sofa can breath. Over time and with proper care an aniline leather sofa will develop a patina. Any stains will be absorbed into the leather over a short time and will not be noticeable.

Aniline leather sofas are some of the strongest leather sofas available since they are made with full grain leather rather than the lesser quality split leather that is sometimes used to make inexpensive leather furniture.

However, they do need to be properly cared for. As this is natural leather, you do not want to use any liquids on the leather. If you should spill something, just blot with a clean dry cloth to remove as much as possible of the spill and then leave it alone to be absorbed into the leather.

You want to keep your aniline leather sofa out of the sun and away from direct heat in order to protect the leather from drying out or fading. You do not want to use anything on your full grain sofa that contains oil, wax, or silicone as this will damage it.

Aniline sofas are quite expensive usually due to the high quality of leather used to produce these sofas. Even at a discounted price they may be more expensive than other lesser quality leather sofas. However, you are paying for quality, and you get what you pay for.

Due the the cost of aniline leather sofas and the need to try to prevent liquid spills as much as possible with these sofas, it might be best for those who have small children to stick with other types of sofas that are more child friendly. Source: Domleathersofa dot com

How Many Cushions?

sofa cushionsSeat cushions are a great way to quickly update your room with a new look without spending too much money.  Many bargins can be found in your local closeout dealers like Big Lots, TJMaxx Home Goods, or Marshalls.  You'll often find brand name home decor items at very low prices up to 75% off from regular priced retail shops.  I never mind shopping at those places, because everyone has their own style, and thank goodness furniture trends are not as volitile as fashion trends.  So you'll likely to find season appropriate colors and materials when your shopping at those places.  For instance if your shopping during the fall, your more likely to find microfibers, leathers, and other soft and comfy fabric lined pillows in autumn colors and holiday prints rather than in the summer time you'll find lighter fabrics, like linens, fabrics, polyesters, satin pillow, etc in lighter and brighter shades.  My favorite time to shop for pillows woudl definately be summer since all the bright colors will be out and I can experiment with Reds, Corals, Lime Greens, etc.  Something fun to dress up that borring beige sofa!  Another great way is to go to your local fabric store, where you'll often find great deals on remnants upholstery fabrics, which are end pieces from other projects that they mark down at deep discounts to close them out.  You'll usually need 1/2 yard material for each pillow.  So have fun with it and stay tuned, the next topic is how to make your own Pillows and Cushions!

New Furniture Care Tips

To protect your new furniture, we suggest the following:

* Do not place your furniture in direct sunlight and/or a damp area.

* Arrange your furniture so it is not placed in front of or over heating or air conditioning vents.

* Avoid placing furniture directly under windows.

* Be careful not to place plastic materials (place mats, lamp bases, notebooks, etc.) on your furniture. Certain plastics have ingredients that may react with and damage the finish.

* Occasionally rotate accessories so they do not remain in the same spot for extended periods.

clean furniture* Avoid creating marks on your furniture by placing a piece of felt, cloth or leather under accessories.

* Lift objects from the top surface rather than dragging them across the finish when moving them.

* Use a protective pad when using your furniture as a writing surface (especially when using a ballpoint pen).

* Wipe up spills promptly. Water left over a prolonged period of time will cause white spots in the finish, and alcohol, perfume, after-shave and medicines can cause severe damage to the finish.

* Dust frequently with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. To remove accumulated dust or old furniture wax build-up, use a soft, lint-free cloth which has been dampened in a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Dry thoroughly using a clean, lint-free cloth and then apply furniture polish, wiping it in the direction of the wood grain.

* We recommend that furniture be polished every six months.

Related Scheme

Related schemeRelated Scheme
Choose colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. Decide which color will be dominant and use the others as accents. A related scheme using cool colors is restful, since there is not much contrast. On the other hand, a related scheme can also become quite exciting when violet and red or pink and orange are combined.

Veneered Wood Furniture

veneered wood furnitureVeneered Wood Furniture
In veneer construction, layers of woods are permanently bonded to a center core on a solid wood frame. Veneering permits matching and repeating grain patterns that are impossible in solid lumber.

Veneering is used in about 80 percent of wood furniture, from the least to the most expensive, because of its strength and added versatility.

Solid Wood Furniture

Solid wood FurnitureSolid Wood Furniture
Solid is used to describe furniture with drawer fronts, tops, panels and other like surfaces made of whole wood, or of one piece, without plies of veneer.

Solid wood surfaces are composed of narrow solid wood planks, bonded permanently together, side by side. These planks serve to prevent splitting and warping when temperatures change and when the wood naturally expands and contracts. They also provide decorative variation.
